About Our Club

Central East Rotary Club of Portland, Oregon

We are a part of 36,000 Rotary Clubs; 1,200,000 members around the world in 188 countries, and are part of District 5100. We are one of 73 other clubs in Oregon stretching from the Pacific Ocean to the Eastern Oregon border, and from Salem North to Woodland, Washington.

Central East Portland Rotary Club has been part of the community since 1986. Our Rotary club is dedicated to “Service Above Self”. Since 1990, CEP Rotary Club has given deserving high school graduates $ 300,000 in College and University scholarships. In addition, CEP Rotary Club has sponsored and mentored one person since 7th grade through University for a full scholarship being tuition and books at an Oregon University or College.

In calendar year 2010, CEP Rotary Club has given            $ 28,000 to deserving High School students and prior scholarship winners from the David Douglas, Reynolds and Parkrose High School Districts.

Other activities include sponsoring and conducting a “carnival” event for Muscular Dystrophy afflicted students, and participation in the Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon.

In the past five (5) years, CEP Rotary Club has given over $ 10,000 to Rotary International to support efforts to eradicate Polio from the face of the earth. RI is working toward a $ 200 million drive to match the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation’s $ 355 million, to reach the goal of eradicating Polio in the few countries where Polio still exists. The crippling disease of Polio occured in over    300,000 persons in 1985. Now the number worldwide is between 100 and 200. Hopefully, those few cases will be wiped out, and the goal of complete eradication of Polio from the face of the earth will be achieved.
